MSPE Building getting some updates

On Friday, June 2, a group of MSPE members started some much needed updates to the MSPE building in Lansing. A fresh coat of paint was put on the walls in the lobby and also in the conference room and one office on the first floor. We also began emptying the attic and found a few treasures along the way. There was also some work started on the landscaping in the back of the building. This was a great start but we still have work to do, so if you would like to volunteer, stay tuned. Michigan MATHCOUNTS team places at National Competition

The Michigan MATHCOUNTS Team placed 5th in the 2017 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition held May 14th and 15th at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Florida.  The team is comprised of the top four finishers in the Michigan Competition: Reagan Choi, Alex Xu, Varun Rajesh, all from Boulan Park Middle School in Troy, and Jeffrey Zhang, from Hillside Middle School in Northville.  The Team was coached by Mark Martin, a teacher at Boulan Park Middle School. New Fellows named

John A. Condie, PE and James E. Kirkwood, PE were named MSPE Fellows on May 5, during the MSPE Annual Conference in Ann Arbor. Both men have been practicing professional engineers for at least 20 years, and are active members of MSPE’s Western Chapter. They have established a conspicuous record of achievement in professional affairs, including substantial interest and active work in the MSPE at the Chapter and State level, and have been active in civic, community, and public affairs.

Engineer of the Year Awards presented

The MSPE Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year were presented on May 5, during the Annual Conference in Ann Arbor. Scott Conners, PE, was presented the Engineer of the Year Award. Scott is described as a dedicated, hardworking engineer, outstanding in professional abilities and endless willingness to volunteer. He is well respected among his peers with esteemed reputation for leadership. MSPE Opposes SB 157 – Contact your Senator!

MSPE has been working with our design professional partners and several other groups (including ACEC, AIA, APWA, MML, MTA, CRA, AWWA, DIPRA and CPA) in opposition of SB 157.  The most recent version of the bill S01239'17 (S-2) Draft 2 was voted out of the Senate Committee on March 22.  Despite our best efforts and overwhelming opposition in both committee hearings from those attending, the bill was passed out 4-1 on party lines.  This bill would disallow standard city/county specifications, force the allowance of plastic pipe materials in all bidding for publicly funded water and sewer projects and cause potential long-term maintenance...

MATHCOUNTS State Competition held

The State Competition was held at the GM Warren Tech Center on Saturday, March 11. There were 138 students representing 53 schools attending.
